Questions to help you find a pet sitter and build a trusting relationship with your family. We answer each question highlighted in red.

Is the pet sitter insured for liability, including care, custody, and control of the pet?

Out of the Dog House is insured through Pet Sitters Associates.

Will the sitter provide contact information for references upon request?

We will provide references to you during our initial meeting.

Does the sitter provide a copy of the legal terms of your contract, including cancellation policy & other terms?

You receive a contract in your initial packet.  We will leave you a copy of all the forms on our first visit upon request.

What kind of pet education and/or certification does the sitter have?

We have over 25 years of experience with pets.

Does the sitter know pet first aid?

We completed the Petco first aid course.

What happens during the free initial meeting?

During our initial meeting, we will review all the forms and ask questions for clarification.

Is the sitter a member of professional organizations, such as pet sitting associations, humane organizations, or other pet care group?

We belong to Pet Sitters Associates and Professional United Pet Sitters.

Is the sitter a full time sitter, or do they have limited availability due to another job or school?

Out of the Dog House operates 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Does the sitter have the proper licensing for their area (in some areas a business license or kennel license for boarding may or may not be required)?

Out of the Dog House is registered with the town of Middletown.

Does the sitter talk positively about other sitters in the area, and seem informed about the industry and other pet care providers?

Absolutely.   If you don’t think we fit your needs we will make recommendations as needed.

Will you have the same sitter serving your home the entire time you are away?

Dale and Vicki operate as a team and we discuss our care with pets each day to provide continuity of services.

Will the sitter be allowed to bring anyone with them to the sits?

No.  Occasionally we will do a visit together to familiarize ourselves to the routine and reintroduce ourselves to the pet.

Does the sitter ever bring children or their own pets to visits?

Never.  We devote all our time and attention to your pet(s). We also don't take phone calls during a visit.

How often will the sitter leave a note for you?

We leave a detailed note at each visit, noting the arrival and departure time, and all tasks completed during the visit.  We will also send a quick update via email or Facebook if requested.

How will your key be stored or returned?

When the key isn’t in use, it is stored in a locked box.   The key agreement you receive in your initial packet outlines our policies.

Has the sitter cared for your type of pet in the past?

We have extensive personal experience with dogs, cats, gerbils, hamsters, fresh water fish, rabbits, guinea pigs, and small birds.   Dale worked at a chain pet store and was certified in animal care.

Does the sitter accept multiple payment methods (cash, check, money order, etc)?

Yes, you may pay with a check, cash, or online with PayPal.
